A Chance Meeting

Session Summary

  • Hired by Burin Goldenfold to scout the ruins he wants to investigate with Archaeologists, Historians etc.
  • They meet another mercenary hired by Burin, a man named Oswald “Otto” Anthor, a man obsessed with impressing every woman he sees.
  • They arrive at their destination and the party are sent to scout the ruins ahead
  • They are told that they should avoid destroying any constructs within the ruin as much as possible
  • They find that the ruin is inhabited by some orc scouts who have been spying on the trade roads of Fador north of the Daldur Swamplands
  • After defeating the orcs they find a crumpled piece of paper with writing in Orcish
  • Otto volunteers to stay behind to guard the orc they left alive and tend his own wounds
  • They also find a suit of armour in the ruin that attacks them

The Escapee

Session Summary

  • They find a young Drow woman named Ana locked up in a dungeon of sorts; she’d been captured by the Orcs whilst resting nearby
  • Ana tells them that she is a messenger, hired to deliver an important letter to someone in Daldur
  • As they begin to leave, they hear Otto cry out in pain. They arrive to see that the orc they captured had stabbed Otto whilst he was dressing a wound
  • They run outside to try and catch him only to be ambushed by the orc that escaped and two large Worgs, both Worgs are hidden behind the ruins
  • After speaking to Burin, he tells them that it’s very dire news that Orcs have successfully entered Fador; he asks the girls to seek a dwarvern captain named Bakham Cobal
  • Burin gives them the 150 gold (each) he was going to pay them and 3 of the wagon train’s spare horses. He sends them off to find Cobal in Daldur, also giving them a letter to prove their trustworthiness.
  • After a day or so’s travel they arrive at Daldur with Ana in tow, Ana quickly leaves to find her client
  • They look around and hear that Cobal is at the city barracks
  • They speak to Cobal, he is deeply troubled by the news, but thanks the party for their help and gives them another 150gp each
  • He asks for a favour, as he has ‘too much on my plate already, let along this mess. I have’ne gotten’ne time to do some other ‘little’ jobs around town’

Session Summary

  • They choose to begin by visiting Professor Tiberius Uruk at his workshop on the outskirts of town
  • They arrive and are greeted by Nathaniel, his apprentice who promptly tells them that they don’t want any leaflets or tomatoes thrown at them
  • Realising that they aren’t salesmen or racists he lets them in, telling them to sit whilst he gets the professor
  • Minutes later the Professor comes bumbling in, nearly face planting as he tries to walk and read until he finally notices the party
  • He tells them that due to his Orcish heritage, many people in the city don’t accept them and abuse him constantly. They had recently took it further by actively stealing from him.
  • He asks that they get back a very important journal from one of his abusers. Dalen Ironbrand, owner of the Iron mines in the city
  • They arrive and Xaxi uses her Wild Shape to scout Dalen’s study, finding him hunched over the book trying to decipher its contents
  • Xaxi & Khavi then create a distraction while Myri sneaks in and steals the journal; but not before she face plants onto the hard stone.
  • They return the book to Uruk and he’s over the moon, giving them some cash and a place to stay in his spare rooms

Session Summary

  • (Myri Only) Myri has a vision in which she enters the Spirit Realm and meets Bear, Eagle & Wolf; the Great Spirits of Nature; who ask her to chose a path. She chooses the Path of the Eagle
  • They eat breakfast with Uruk & Nathaniel
  • They visit Mrs Ivel to enquire about her missing children Renner & Arterta; there they meet Anguish, a Tiefling Sorcereress with a serious attitude, especially towards Khavi
  • They then try to talk to the children playing by the river to get info on Renner & Arterta’s location; Anguish attempts to intimidate them, quickly finding out that her intimidation skills have very much declined from her time in the Sloporf Forests
  • They eventually get wind that Renner & Arterta went to the new sweet shop that just opened up in town
  • They meet the shop keeper called Kathryn, a very quiet and anxious young woman
  • Suspecting her of taking the children the party sneak into her cellar only to find a trapdoor leading into the sewers
  • There they find a hideous Sea Hag praying to Vialithian, The Mother of Monsters; Renner & Arterta are chained on opposite sides of the room
  • The Sea Hag, seeing it is going to lose the fight attempts the kills Renner is spite; but doesn’t successfully end him before being shot through the heart by Myri
  • Khavi patches up Renner and Myri sets Arterta free; the two children run and embrace one another. The two are then returned to their mother
  • Seeing that she has nowhere to stay, the Professor also allows Anguish to stay at his workshop

Closet Skeletons and Horned Devils

Session Summary

  • Group return to the Professor’s Workshop after saving Renner & Arterta; Nathaniel & the Professor greet them
  • They use the professors magic bath; Xaxi has to use Myri’s tail as a woggle & Khavi is very hesitant to get in; Anguish sits in the opposite corner of the bath and doesn’t say a word
  • Whilst Khavi and Anguish are drying themselves off, Xaxi & Myri explore the rest of the house
  • They enter the professor’s room and find the journal; Xaxi casts detect magic and finds that the book is used to send messages of some kind. She also senses that there is a powerful abjuration magic emanating from the Professor’s chest
  • They begin to write in the book in orcish, asking , ‘Is it done yet?’
  • It replies with; ‘It is nearly finished, a few more weeks, I need to wait for Gomez, my apprentice to go out and fetch supplies before I can work on it though, he cant know!’
  • From what he then went on to say it sounded like they were building some kind of transmutation device
  • The party then leave to sell/purchase some things; they sell the sapphires Xaxi, Myri & Khavi found in the animated armour room in the ruins
  • They then visit the ‘Ironbrand Armaments’ run by another member of the Ironbrand family; there Anguish buys a light crossbow & some bolts, while Xaxi buys a mace
  • They return and eat dinner with Nathaniel & the professor, Anguish raveneously devours the food; Nathaniel jokingly asks how long its been since she ate at a table; Anguish thinks for a moment and then replies with ‘A proper table? I don’t know, like, 15-16 years’
  • Whilst on her way to bed Xaxi is stopped by Nathaniel, who tells her he know that they were in the book; he tells them that the Professor and some elven man that he met only once named Gezeer Faeylar are building some kind of transmutation system, and from the notes he’s seen, it appears to transfer and generate enormous amounts of energy
  • Anguish finds out some real spooky shit about Nathaniel

Hushed Whispers and the Curious Cat

Session Summary

  • The group; awaken and begin to eat breakfast with the professor where upon he asks where Xaxi & Khavi are from. He’s heard of the Ashari Lands and would like to study them if he ever got the chance. He has also apparently met Valdani, the professor at the Cythium * * Academy of Alchemical Mastery that taught Khavi for several years
    They go to fetch Anguish and find that she’s curled up in a ball in the corner of the room, a scorch mark is on the fall wall; Xaxi attempts to approach her and is swiped at
  • Anguish runs upstairs and pushes Nathaniel onto the table, examining him for something, she does a similar thing to the professor by ripping open his shirt and listening to his heart. * She then runs back downstairs and packs her things, she gets to the door, her friends still in the room, Xaxi tugs at her tail and looks her in the eye. Anguish then drops her stuff then goes upstairs.
  • Xaxi casts detect magic on Anguish’s mask and senses that it has a small amount of dormant illusion magic inside
  • Anguish meanwhile takes the professor upstairs, Khavi following stealthily behind them
    (Anguish & Khavi Only) The professor assumes she didn’t drink the potion; she hadn’t . They speak of how the nightmare was about some kind of beast, Nathaniel was involved in the nightmare and the potion would’ve prevented the nightmare
  • After Anguish has calmed down (thanks to half a bottle of whiskey)
    When the Professor finds Khavi in the main room, he quickly works out that she was listening on the conversation with Anguish
  • Khavi & Anguish then go out shopping; Anguish visits the sweet shop and retrieves a sorry gift for Xaxi after she slashed at her, she then goes to the market where she sees Dalen Ironbrand giving a speech, saying that Lord Belrak was incredibly ill and likely wouldn’t live ‘til the end of the year. Anguish then buys some ingredients and bakes some bread.
  • Khavi visits an alchemy shop where she meets a curly haired woman and her common speaking cat, after finding out that the cat spoke to Khavi, the woman refunds her a little on her purchase and tells her to return later and she’ll give Khavi a small gift
  • When Uruk hears of Dalen becoming lord he realises that he cant stay in town much longer
  • The party then head out to The Flat Lyre, a tavern run by Angus Milac, Ironbrand’s nephew

Session Summary

  • Anguish gets drunk in the Flat Lyre
  • (Khavi Only) Khavi overhears a conversation saying that Dalen Ironbrand’s son has recently died and that his wife is distraught
  • The bit with Daewn is non-cannon ok guys
  • Myri carries a very drunk Anguish back to the professor’s house; they eat dinner
  • During dinner Nathaniel asks what the deal with her dream was, Anguish effectively tells him that he burnt her to death after she surrendered to him; Nathaniel is horrified and walks upstairs shivering, the Professor shoots Anguish a glare and follows after him
  • (Anguish Only) Anguish refuses to sleep after her previous night’s turmoil and instead decides to stay up all night and read History books, specifically on the Infernal War. The Professor enters, expecting to find Anguish refusing to sleep, he tells her that Nathaniel had been suffering from similar nightmares for a long time, he offers her some whisky which Anguish happily drinks only to quickly discover that it’s actually the Sleeping Potion
  • They awake and (after a anti-hangover potion from the professor) they set out to the Herbalist’s shop to receive Khavi’s gift
  • Angela greets them and happily gives all of them a reading, seeming very intrigued by everyone’s interesting prophecies
  • Everyone then sets out to find the Temple of Nevthar to speak to Father Morona and find out about their final job

It Takes Spirit

Session Summary

  • The party travels through town towards the Temple of Nevthar
  • Along the way they enter onto a main road where they see a large group of people moving towards the west exit of the city
  • They stop a halfling woman with three children and ask her where everyone is going; she replies by saying that lots of people don’t feel safe in the west any more after a number of people have been found dead by weapon wounds in the past month or so
  • They arrive to see a large Gothic temple with 2 large statues of the god Nevthar
  • Inside is of a similar design with large pillars and another much larger statue of Nevthar with his arms outstretched, on Nevthar’s left and right are two identical statues of the god Jergul
  • There’re also a large group of acolytes in dark robes preying before the statue, a very tall, elderly man in large robes is addressing them, he is wearing similar robes but with more ornate gold and silver trimmings
  • After the acolytes leave the man approaches and asks the party what their business is at his temple; they tell him that they’re here on behalf of Bakham
  • Realising this, the man introduces himself as Father Morona, the man they were looking for
  • He tells them that the church is having a spirit issue and since, his acolytes aren’t combat trained and he needs someone to deal with the spirits in case they can’t calm them effectively
  • As they descend into the crypts they find a magical barrier, guarded by two acolytes. They give the party some Hallowed Water to sprinkle on the graves of the spirits after they had been defeated.
  • They enter to find a large burial chamber, inside is are 2 pinkish-purple, feral looking undead creatures. There is also another, turquoised coloured, more human looking ghost.
  • The party then tries to reason with the ghost, but to no avail; the ghost then possesses Myri.
  • After a hard battle, several more possessions and Khavi on the brink of death the ghosts are turned into no more than bursts of dust against the walls of the crypt
  • The party then sprinkles the hallowed water onto the physical corpses of the ghost and spectres

Session Summary

  • Party accends from the crypts to find Father Morona waiting for them; he thanks the party for their assistance and gives them all 200gp
  • Xaxi and Anguish notice that when he bows, they can see that his eyes are a pure, electric blue, no pupil, just blue. Anguish looks for signs of him being a tiefling whilst Xaxi suddenly realises that he could quite possibly be an Eladrin; the purest of elves, rarely leave the feywild, let alone coming out of Uparia.
  • They leave the temple of nevthar, Khavi and Anguish return to the Professor’s Workshop whilst Xaxi and Myri go to the barracks to speak to Bakham
  • Khavi goes downstairs to sleep whilst Anguish begins browsing books
  • (Anguish Only) Nathaniel approaches Anguish and begins to ask her about her nightmares, telling her that he’s been having nightmares since he was young and that he know the Professor has told her things but he doesn’t know what because “the professor is a very bad liar”. She tells him that she’s from Sloporf forest and she was there for a few years but she doesn’t remember how many, he then asks whether she has any friends or family; she quickly says she doesn’t He then asks what he looked like in the nightmare, she says she looked live a horned devil with wings, he says this is about on par with the usual. He then asks whether there were any notable markings anywhere; she mentions the drawing and reveals that it was Queen Dodoris, someone who “causes a lot of pain for a lot of people”
  • Myri and Xaxi arrive at the barracks and see Bakham; he thanks them for their help around town and gives them 1000gp to share between them. He then asks all of them to come to the town hall at 8pm as the lord has a proposition for them
  • They return to the professor’s workshop and Myri enters Khavi‘s room to see that her room is full of alchemical tools and is a mess; she doesn’t notice Myri entering. Myri gives Khavi her money and proceeds to ask her about the drawing of a flower on her wall. Khavi explains that it is some kind of legendary alchemical ingredient that she has spent the past several years of her life trying to find. She then tells Khavi that they’re going to meet the lord at 8:00pm. Xaxi also tell Anguish about this upstairs too.
  • They eat dinner; the professor is very quiet
  • The party visits the town hall; inside is Lord Daldur sitting in a chair/throne, to his left is Bakham with his hands behind his back; they approach and Daldur thanks them for their warning of the orcs and their assistance within the town. He asks he they will assist Fador once more; a mousefolk woman approaches and places a table, whilst a butler with an amazing pencil brush moustache places a piece of parchment, a bottle of ink and a quil.
  • The contract effectively states that the party would become agents of Fador until either the end of the year or until the lord dies. The party will receive 450gp per month + extra if they do additional tasks
  • After they’ve signed the contract, Lord Dadur then begins to detail their first assignment; they’re to go north and deliver a message to Skymaster Alforok at Dher Moldir; the headquarters of the Wyvern Riders, apparently the road is quite dangerous with bandits and beasts. He is sending them instead of guards as not to raise too much of an alarm with the already scared citizens of Fador.
  • They’re given their monthly 450gp and sent off to go and rest; they are to leave on the 9th
  • They arrive home and quickly go to bed; Anguish stays up to try and improve her writing but quickly falls asleep…she has another nightmare.
  • She wakes up relatively early in the morning and hastily puts all her things away and heads downstairs to hide in her room.
  • Everyone else gets up for breakfast; Uruk says he heard about their mission and recommends they secure themselves horses, supplies and perhaps to visit The Travller’s Den for some magical items
  • Anguish bought some bread for the journey, Myri bought some arrows, Khavi bought some alchemical supplies and Xaxi bought some spears
  • Anguish also went to the alchemy shop and had an argument with Angela which she promptly lost
  • They all then visited The Traveller’s Den where they bought some magical items, Xaxi bought a Staff of the Python, Anguish bought a Brooch of Shielding, Myri bought a Boundless Quiver and Khavi bought a ______. They also used some of their group fund to buy a Bag of Holding and a Figurine of Wondrous Power: Silver Raven.
  • (Anguish Only) When they all leave, Anguish notices a tiefling man that she has seen several times throughout town, she moves away from the group and he follows her. After several minuets of avoiding him, she turns around and asks him what he wants.
  • He says that a man named Belrich Bardrum is out for her head, and he has been tasked with finding her; he also knows almost everything about [[: anguish | Anguish]].
  • (Anguish Only) She goes and buys all of the bread rolls from the bakery, which she distributes out to the people in the Waterfront district. There she meets [[: arrak | Arrak]], who, after several minutes of sniffing the bread she gave him for poisons. He tells Anguish his story and says that if she wishes to see him again she should visit ‘The Hovel’. Anguish then returns to the professor’s workshop, seeing her first skyship on the way.

Revenge of a Bandit

Session Summary

  • Anguish returns from her ‘walk’, she eats very little. Myri asks whether she’s ok, Anguish says she’s fine.
  • Anguish goes for a bath, in which Xaxi sneaks into her room and finds fuck all, other than the dagger under her pillow.
  • (Anguish Only): goes upstairs to do some writing and speaks to the professor; he gives her 12 days of potions and tells her that Angela is right and she is not one to be meddled with.
  • The Professor goes to bed; Anguish writes a thankyou card for the whisky and places it in the professor’s workshop. She then goes to sleep with the potion
  • They leave; saying goodbye to the professor, as they turn the corner they’re met by two guards who tell them that they have been sent by Bakham to escort them to the edge of town. On arrival they are gifted horses by a stableman and Bakham tells them that to get to Dher Moldir; they need to effectively follow the river all the way up through the forest until they reach the outpost; where the riders will take them up to Dher Moldir.
  • As they begin to leave they see Ana gallop past on a horse
  • They leave the city; their first day is uneventful. However, Anguish does befriend a tiny field mouse that she names Zarzire.
  • Day two goes by uneventful up until the night; Myri is on second watch and falls asleep. She wakes up and is immediately knocked unconscious by something blunt and heavy.
  • Myri and Xaxi are the first to wake; realising that they’re tied to a rock with a potato sack on their heads.
  • Anguish then awakens to a man holding a dagger against her chin. The man reveals himself as Belrich Bardrum, the man who was revealed to be after Anguish not days before. The sack is then taken off of her head and she sees a Bardrum stood right in front of her; the tiefling that warned her a ways behind him, another woman, a drow with long ginger her stands smiling cruelly off to his left.
  • Bardrum reveals that the reason for his hunting of Anguish was due to her killing his younger brother by burning him to death. Anguish does not specifically remember this.
  • Bardrum then instructs Phyra, the drow to begin torturing Anguish. She places her hands on Anguish’s head and begins to invade her mind, causing immense pain.
  • After a minute or so of this; Myra taps into her new found Spiritual power, granting her the ability to summon a spectral giant eagle. She then breaks the ropes with the flex of her muscles and proceeds to (with some help from the eagle and Xaxi) annihilate Bardrum and his companions.
  • Anguish approaches Phyra and proceeds to rip out her throat. She is about to do the same to Bardrum upon which he crunches down on something in his teeth and disappears entirely, taking Phyra’s body with him.
  • She decides to leave the tiefling alive; he then reveals his name to be Mechar as he limps into the distance.
  • They rest for a while before continuing on; they say almost nothing for the rest of the day.
  • Upon the change of watches, Xaxi begins to ask Anguish who Bardrum was and what he wanted. They then begin to argue with one another.
